Hancock permit bought today!
« on: December 09, 2013, 08:47:47 AM »
So I broke down under the advice of my hunting partner and bought a Hancock pass for the snoqualmie area. Anybody else out there doing the same thing? Also wondering what anybody saw in this area while hunting this year?!!

Good amount of deer, lots of bear, lots of cougars, lots of WDFW Officers  :chuckle: . As far as elk, well they are mainly in the Snoqualmie Tree farm during the summer time. By the time the season starts in September they have mainly moved down to the pastures. There are always a few stragglers up there in the fall, but definitely not as many as in the summer time.

Thinking about purchasing one myself. However I must not be on the correct website as they state none are available.

Online it says they have 854 permits for motorized left. They upped it to a 1000 this year. Must be trying to make up lost revenue

had the Snoq-Hancock permit the last 3 years.
never checked by a game agent but I'm out away from the truck in the bush hunting most of the day anyways. Drive the roads like most and you'll meet them.
However I will not buy the motorized permit for 2014.
area losing value for me, just MHO.

Been good for late archery buck deer, at least for the 2nd rut period around turkey day. After that 2nd rut is over, tough pickings and tough sighting the bigger bucks. they just disappear into their remote core areas which are hard to access.

Only elk I see in there were summers as mentioned or early spring. And very few of those from my experience. But I hunt elk on the dry side.

several cougars on game cams in 5 different areas. So I think the cat population there is pretty much unchecked. Viewed a couple cats while I was sitting in a treestand for late archery. Glad to have my SW 357 mag holstered on my belt but cats were out of range anyways. This year I came across two different cougar traps, both baited with 1/2 deer carcass. Just for interest, I took a peek at these traps each time in for late archery, but no cats caught in the traps on my observance.

but due to heavy muzzleloader pressure for late November-early December & constant road hunters, get off the roads into the thick stuff & pockets and you'll see deer. Just because its private now doesn't make it easy. Especially with 1000 motorized permits available.
